Public transportation (OC Transpo) is about $93/month for an adult. Depending on the area of the city you are planning to live, I recommend using the busses if you are working in the downtown core. I pay $900/month for my 1 bedroom apartment and $110 in utilities. The average 3 bedroom apartment in Ottawa goes for about $1400-$1800/month- Add an extra $200-$400 if you want to live downtown.

Without details, one could only give averages. For 2006, StatsCan estimates average living costs in Ottawa around $35,000 per year for the average house hold. That would include food, shelter, transportation, etc. Add more for health care, entertainment, etc. and adjust for inflation and you are probably talking about $45k or so per year. Averages don't mean a lot. There is a big different between renting or paying a mortgage for example and if you can get buy with using public transportation, obviously you save a lot.
