I am pretty sure you don't need to be a citizen, but be careful, real estate is very expensive and many are predicting a price drop. Not like the US, but still a drop.

No, once you you buy a form of property or adopt their you are a citizen, not a natural born; but a citizen, they can still deport you & evict the rights of your property at any time. Especially in Canada

Remember that owning property is one thing, BUT it does NOT give you Immigration status IN Canada. In order to live and work IN Canada, you must apply, be accepted by the Canadian Government as a Immigrant, and get a letter of approval in your hand . THEN you can come to Canada, and buy anything that you can afford. BUT, be aware that new Immigrants are not likely to be able to get credit to get a mortgage, unless thay are able to put up a significant percentage of the sale price, usually about 30 to 40 percent, in CASH. WHY? Previous newcomers were given credit and when they couldn't get a job, or keep a job here, they skipped back home, leaving the bank stuck with the debt. So the rules are set to make it harder to get credit here, in the first few years in the country. Jim b. Toronto.
