News flash for you.........You have to apply in person, at a City of Toronto services office, and be prepared to be quizzed about where you live and why you don't have a job. Jim B.

Well, if you have children, you must provide the father(s) name, so that Ontario Works may begin the process of taking them to court on your behalf, for child support payments, if you don't already have some sort of official agreement/arrangement. That is something not mentioned on their website, but as I have a friend who just got herself out of the system, after needing help leaving an abusive relationship, that was one of the requirements they asked of her. The rest of the info is on the website. There is even an eligibility test you may take. Good luck.

You cannot apply for welfare online - you have to call them make an appointment and go in person to apply. You cannot have any savings basically - if you have RSP's they force you to cash them out. If you own a home, they put a lien on your mortgage so you pay them back. If you have a car, they may force you to sell it.You basically have to be down and out, no income. Welfare is not a way of life, nor a real source of income, they give very little by the way.
