After marriage just add her name to the deed of your home.Let her take the mortgage for the family lake house. Just her name on the mortgage but both your names on the deed. This way she as money invested and should be able to get a mortgage.

It sounds to me like you want her to pay her rent...so just have her write you rent checks each month. When you get married, she doesn't need to pay you back for half of the house because your money will all be combined; so that would just be silly.

You don't have to be on the mortgage to have ownership. If she buys the home in her name, for half of the cost, and puts your name on the deed, jtwrs (joint tennants with rights of survivorship), you will still have ownership yet not have the debt on the mortgage. But NO, you cannot only mortgage half
